BUSINESS NAME REGISTRATION
Each sole proprietorships and partnerships in the state of Sarawak must register business names and in accordance with regulations and laws that have been specified in the Ordinan Nama-nama Perniagaan [Cap. 64]. Any business to be registered must register their business in the District Office or authorized by the district where the premises is located. For example, if the premises are located in the town of Sibu, the business owner must register his business in Sibu District Office and not in another District Office.

Payment of fees must be paid by cash only. Payments by check, money order or credit cards are not accepted.

i. Monday – Thursday : 8.00 am - 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm - 3.30 pm ii. Friday : 8.00 am - 11.00 pm and 2.15 pm - 3.30 pm
i. Form R.20-Pind. 1/86*; ii. Company stamp **; iii. Copy of applicant's identity card **; iv. Registration Fees (RM50.00) and quotes fees (2.00) **; v. Copy of Sale Agreement (Sale & Purchase Agreement) or a photocopy of the Land Grants (Land Title) or the Land Title and Survey extract if the applicant belongs to a trade ** vi. A copy of the agreement with the owner of the premises if a deal hired **.
* Please get these forms at the Registration Counter, Sibu District Office.** Prepared by the applicant.
Step 1 - Get form R.20-Pind. 1/86 subsequently completed and filled with only a typewriter;
Step 2 - Once completed, make sure the form was signed by the applicant and stamped by sample stamp on the company's official stamp of the sample space provided;
Step 3 - Clerk receives the completed form to the applicant and reviewed the contents of either complete or not;
Step 4 - Submit the application to the District Officer as the Registrar of Business Sibu District to considered for approval;
Step 5 - If the application is approved, a registration fee of RM50.00 and RM2.00 quote fees charged and issued a receipt;
Step 6 - Certificate of registration prepared and signed by the Registrar of Business;
Step 7 - Submit the registration certificate to the applicant.
Application for Obtaining Extracts / Excerpt Business Names
1) Applicants must write a letter stating the name and registration number and pay the firm a fee of RM 2.00.2) All applications will be processed and approved within a day if the District Officer in the office at that time.
Modification of Business Information
Any changes to the business information shall be informed in writing to the Registrar of Businesses, by attaching the documents according to the following cases: -
Alternate Business Certificate
Applicants may apply for a replacement certificate of business at the discretion of the Registrar of Business in the loss factor of the certificate or certificates that have been damaged and cannot be used. The documents required are as follows: -
i. Replacement for Lost Certificate ii. Replacement for the damaged certificate
Cancellation of Business Name
To cancel the company's business, the applicant shall be informed in writing together with the appendices of the application to the Registrar of Business. If approved, the cancellation will be gazetted in the "Sarawak Government Gazette" after the Registrar of Business has been given notification of the cancellation as soon as possible.
Each of gazette notification will be charged a fee of RM60.00 payable to Printing Nasional Berhad (PNB), the company appointed by the government to issue the State Government Gazette. The fee will be paid by the applicant in person and payable to: -

i. Receipt / Bank Slip (above) - 3 copies ii. Original Business Registration Certificate iii. Official Letter (Notification of Closing Shop) iv. 30 cent stamp (2 pieces) v. Copies of police report (If the Business Registration Certificate is lost)
